Calling all creators, readers, and crafters! In this exciting Craft & Book Club for ages 8–13, we’ll dive into powerful picture books and chapter excerpts, then bring them to life through hands-on crafts, STEAM activities, and thoughtful discussions.

This class isn’t about worksheets—it’s about doing, making, and connecting. Students will express themselves through guided art projects, build social-emotional skills, and even explore creative writing, all while making unforgettable summer memories.

Each week explores a new book and theme, meeting Monday–Thursday for 25 minutes per session to keep student attention and retention at maximum. Open to reluctant and avid readers alike!

Weekly Themes & Activities (Updated for 8–13):

Week 1: Dragons & Growth Mindset - 
Week of June 2nd

Book: Rosie Revere, Engineer by Andrea Beaty

Mon: Read-aloud + dragon-themed vision board

Tues: Build-your-own flying dragon (engineering challenge)

Wed: Growth mindset mini-comic: "The Dragon Who Didn't Give Up"

Thurs: LEGO dragon or recycled materials dragon lair

Week of June 9

Book: The Science of Breakable Things (excerpt) by Tae Keller

Mon: Book excerpt + journaling on perseverance

Tues: Make your own edible slime or oobleck

Wed: Popsicle stick bridge challenge + flavor voting charts

Thurs: Candy-themed art or create-your-own science experiment

Yes, this class is intentionally designed to support unique learning needs, including students with ADHD, Dyslexia, and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). I provide: Visual schedules and clear expectations at the start of each session

There are no official prerequisites for this class. Students should be comfortable with basic scissor use, gluing, and following step-by-step directions. They do not need to be fluent readers—we will use read-alouds and visual support.

Theme: Rosie Revere, Engineer + Build-a-Dragon Crafts
Supplies:

Construction paper or cardstock (variety of colors)

Markers, crayons, or colored pencils

Tape and glue stick

Safety scissors

Straws or popsicle sticks

Aluminum foil or scrap cardboard (for building)

Recycled materials (boxes, toilet paper rolls, bottle caps)

Optional: LEGO bricks or building blocks
