수업 소개
Have you ever wanted to create your own superhero? Discover the world of comic book art as you learn how to tell fantastic stories through hand-drawn comics. We'll explore the who, what, when, where, and why of storytelling and make a three panel comic in this one-time class. Introduction to the class and to comics as an artform. view-- What is a comic? Trajan's column, Giotto's Arena Chapel, Webcomics, the funnies, Marvel and DC universes, the age of Superman, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dogman, Bone, shoujo and shonen manga, graphic novels. Students discuss and share their favorites. Teacher presentation: style versus substance. Compare American cartooning styles with Japanese manga or anime. List and categorize story genres. Students choose a style and a genre, then create a three panel comic with step by step action sequences. Discuss use of "mad-lib"-style story generation, with randomization of protagonist, genre, action, etc. for students who "don't have any ideas." Students will have the opportunity to share their work with other students live during the lesson, and/or share an image of their finished work in the classroom forum. #creative ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL): Class is appropriate for (CEFR: A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) Please message me to let me know if your learner is A2 or B1.

Warning: Comic books, especially superhero comics, usually contain violent conflicts, violent images, and weapons. While I discourage my students from creating gore for gore's sake and generally consider guns to be the most boring weapon in a story, my focus in these comics classes is to help students communicate a story that makes sense, not to attempt to remove the violent element from the superhero genre. If you as a parent find violence distasteful or do not wish your child to depict violent images, please discuss this with your learner.
