Class Experience This engaging, 55-minute weekly class is designed for students in grades 5-8 to build foundational acrylic painting skills while creating a new masterpiece each week. We begin by preparing our palettes and chatting to build a sense of community. Using a document camera, I will guide students step by step through the painting process. Along the way, I’ll teach essential techniques like color mixing, brush handling, and layering to build confidence and skill. Calm background music sets a relaxing tone while I encourage students to ask questions and share their progress, if they’d like. The class is structured to be fun and casual, fostering a welcoming environment where creativity thrives. What Will Be Taught? Foundational acrylic painting techniques, including color mixing, brush handling, and layering. How to follow step-by-step instructions to complete a painting. Tips for building artistic confidence and expressing creativity. Class Structure Warm-Up (5 minutes): Palette preparation and community-building chat. Instruction (40-45 minutes): Step-by-step guided painting using a document camera. Wrap-Up (5 minutes): Final touches, sharing artwork (optional), and celebrating progress. Teaching Style My teaching style is interactive, supportive, and fun. I focus on breaking down techniques into manageable steps and providing encouragement to help students feel confident. I’ll demonstrate each step live and ensure plenty of time for questions and interaction. Interaction Students will interact with me and their peers through real-time discussions, questions, and optional sharing of their progress. I am a licsenced art teacher with a passion for fostering creativity in young students. For the past 10 years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching visual arts in public schools, working with students from preschool through 12th grade. Currently, I teach preschool through 3rd grade in Massachusetts, creating an engaging and hands-on learning environment where students can explore their artistic abilities. As a practicing artist, I primarily work in acrylics, but I also enjoy painting in oil and watercolors.
