수업 경험
Learners will be paired up against each other and compete in live chess matches. We will spend the first 10-15 minutes going over the rules and discussing good sportsmanship, proper chess etiquette and perhaps do some warmup puzzles if there is time available. Games will begin at 15 minutes past the hour and run for 45 minutes. These tournaments will be in Arena format, meaning there are no "rounds" and another game will begin as soon as one finishes. The goal of this class is for students to gain a better understanding of the rules of competitive chess and more importantly, learn to manage the emotional highs and lows of tournament play. They will learn to be good sportsmen and sportswomen while respecting the game, their opponents, and themselves.
I have been teaching chess, both in classroom settings and private lessons for the last 15 years. Working with K-12 students with classes of up to 50 students, I have the experience and knowledge to teach students to not only learn chess, but to enjoy the process of learning as well. I'm rated around 1900 USCF.

As a parent myself, I know how important it is to make sure our kids stay safe on the internet. Chess.com is a great platform to play and study chess, but it also has features like creating profiles, in-game chatting, sending messages, and friend lists. Please note that I will not be monitoring student activity on chess.com outside of our class meeting times, so I wanted to share some options with you in case you want to be more proactive in addressing these safety measures. You can manage privacy settings to limit how much interaction your child can have on the website. Just click on “settings,” “all settings,” then “privacy” and go through the options. When making your choices, please keep in mind that students do play against each other during our class (and are welcome to do so outside of class as well), and may want to friend each other or have the option to chat during their games. As a general rule, I would suggest disabling chat and messaging options or only allowing it with their friends (who might be other students in our class). Of course, there is also the option to not share your login password with your child and only sign them in for the class and sign them out immediately afterwards. I’ve been playing on this website for well over 10 years, and have never had any issues with other users. But regardless, I think it’s important to share this information with you in case you’re not familiar with the site’s features. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any concerns or if you have questions regarding which features you’d like to disable.
