What will be taught?
This course takes students on a journey through chess history by studying every world champion, from Paul Morphy to D. Gukesh. Each week, students will analyze a champion’s unique style, their greatest games, and their impact on modern chess. Move discussions will be the primary form of interaction, allowing students to explore key positions and ideas deeply.

What topics will you cover?
Each week focuses on a different world champion, covering:

1). Their biography and historical context
2). Signature playing style and contributions
3). Brilliant games and key moments

Course Outline per week:
-Paul Morphy (Unofficial World Champion, 1858–1860) – The first attacking genius
-Wilhelm Steinitz (1886–1894) – The birth of positional chess
-Emanuel Lasker (1894–1921) – Psychological warfare in chess
-José Capablanca (1921–1927) – Endgame dominance and effortless play
-Alexander Alekhine (1927–1935, 1937–1946) – Tactical brilliance and attacking mastery
-Max Euwe (1935–1937) – The strategist who shocked Alekhine
-Mikhail Botvinnik (1948–1963, with interruptions) – The scientist of chess
-Vasily Smyslov (1957–1958) – Positional elegance and harmony
-Mikhail Tal (1960–1961) – The magician of attack
-Tigran Petrosian (1963–1969) – The master of defense
-Boris Spassky (1969–1972) – Universal style and adaptability
-Bobby Fischer (1972–1975) – The lone warrior and universal genius
-Anatoly Karpov (1975–1985) – Positional squeeze and endgame precision
