Each week, students will view an instructional video that will be posted on Monday of that week. Students will then participate in daily discussion board posts, responding to questions posed by the teacher, and have weekly activities to do. Every Friday, students will complete a digital break out room using information from the week's lessons, and are encouraged to support each other in the classroom to help solve the puzzle by providing hints of how they solved it. Each week, students will go through the following for their lesson: Week 1: Biomes (Terrestrial and Aquatic) -Video: students will watch the instructional video that will cover the different types of biomes and what classifies each biome as either terrestrial or aquatic, as well as examples of different animals that may inhabit them. Note Taker will be provided to be used with video. -Activity: Students will complete "What am I?" worksheet where they will try to determine what animal it is by clues regarding the biome they live in, and physical characteristics of the animal. -Discussion Board: Students will answer daily questions in the classroom. Students will also be encouraged to help each other regarding the Break Out Room to help solve the problems. This can be done as a comment below the break out code link each week. Week 2: Food Chains, Food Webs, and how Ecosystems -Video: students will watch the instructional video that will cover the differences between food chains, food webs, and how animals survive and adapt when ecosystems are harmed or changed. Note Taker will be provided to be used with video. -Activity: Students will complete "Who Eats Who" worksheet in which they will determine the order of eating in a food chain and a food web, as well as create one of each of their own for terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. -Discussion Board: Students will answer daily questions in the classroom. Students will also be encouraged to help each other regarding the Break Out Room to help solve the problems. This can be done as a comment below the break out code link each week. Week 3: Ocean Structure and Ocean Floor -Video: students will watch the instructional video that will cover the ocean structure and the ocean floor, including the intertidal zone, neritic zone, benthic zone, and the ocean shore lines including barrier islands, beaches, inlets, and estuaries. Note Taker will be provided for students. -Activity: Students will read an article from SuperScience! Students will also be encouraged to help each other regarding the Break Out Room to help solve the problems. This can be done as a comment below the break out code link each week. Week 4: Earth Landforms -Video: students will watch the instructional video that will cover the different types of landforms and the characteristics that make them unique due to weathering, erosion and deposition. Note Taker will be provided to be used with video. -Activity: Students will complete "weathering, erosion, or deposition?" worksheet where students will determine from different forces whether the land feature was formed through one of the three processes. -Discussion Board: Students will answer daily questions in the classroom. Students will also be encouraged to help each other regarding the Break Out Room to help solve the problems. This can be done as a comment below the break out code link each week. -Kahoot: Students will be provided a final review Kahoot to review concepts learned in class in preparation for the final quiz for mastery of concepts Links will be provided each week for the break out rooms and will be available for the week. I am a 5th grade teacher, and have taught middle school science for 8 years from 6-8th grade. I am licensed as a science teacher from 6-12 grade, with a Masters in Science Education. I like making learning relate to real world experiences so students can connect to material easier than standard memorization. I review in a flow pattern that starts with basic information and expands into complex information to assist students with retention.
