수업 소개
Let's enter the world of fairy tales! In this camp, we will explore our favourite fairy tales through the world of theatre. We will play lots of fun drama games, create skits based on our favourite tales, and perform a published fairy tale script where all learners will get a creative role. I am an experienced youth theatre director who has taught drama classes and camps for many years and even directed a couple full-length productions with a cast of children and youth. I have also extensively incorporated drama into my teaching practice as an elementary school teacher. My greatest passion is theatre and I love passing it on to all the children I work with. This class will be suitable for those with a background in theatre, and those who want to explore theatre for the first time. Below is a breakdown of each day of class: Day 1: On the first day, we will be focusing on playing fairy-tale themed games to get to know each other and activate our imaginations, learning how actors warm up for performances, and making a series of tableaux images that tell the story of a favourite fairy tale. We will also hold just-for-fun auditions for roles in our play. Day 2: On the second day, we will explore fairy tales through improvisation, make a mixed up fairy tale skit in smaller groups, and receive roles in our fairy tale play. We will begin making or finding in our homes any props we need for the performance. Day 3: On the third day, we will make commercials for products that could have helped out our fairy tale characters, continue to play lots of fairy-tale themed games and improvisation exercises, rehearse our fairy tale play, and find costumes in our wardrobes to wear as our characters. Day 4: On the fourth day, we will create new fairy tale characters and deliver an on-camera monologue for that character, continue to explore wacky fairy-tale themed improvisation exercises, and hold our final rehearsals for our fairy tale play. We will make sure we have all the props and costumes we need for the performance ready, and will even create backdrops that we can use during the performance. Day 5: On the fifth day, it's performance day! We will learn how actors get ready for performances, play fun games to calm any pre-show jitters, and perform our play! At the end of the day, each learner will receive a unique certificate recognizing the unique strengths they brought to our fairy tale world.

We will be using Breakout Rooms to break into smaller groups for the purposes of skit creation, but I will be using different devices to be physically present in each room in case of any concerns or questions that may arise, while still allowing the campers to take the lead in creating their skits.

Leaners will need to use prop and costume items from around their houses for their performance. They will also need paper and pencil crayons or markers to design backdrops and props.

교사 전문성 및 자격증
Hello OutSchool families! My name is Chelsey and I am an enthusiastic, and creative elementary school teacher, youth theatre director and summer camp leader. I hold a degree from the University of British Columbia in English and Theatre, and another degree in Elementary Education
with a focus in Indigenous Education from the same university.
Here on OutSchool, I teach performing arts related classes, classes that incorporate academic curriculum but in engaging and creative ways, and arts-based classes. My classes incorporate such things as visual arts, drama, STEM projects, games, experiments, and challenges. They are highly interactive and hands-on.
In all of my teaching experiences, my first priority is to focus on the social-emotional well-being of my students, making sure to build strong relationships and a sense of community where they can feel not only comfortable to be themselves but also highly valued, just as they are. I strongly believe that children and youth learn best through exploration, creativity, and opportunities to engage their curiosity. Most of all, learning should be fun and focus mostly on learner-centred experiences that are hands-on and open-ended, rather than a more teacher-centred approach. This helps develop a life-long love of learning that I believe is vital for all of us.
I have years of experience leading children in camps related to visual arts, performing arts, and nature - three things that are personal passions of mine. In addition, I have taught children's drama classes for years and even directed children and youth in four (and counting!) full length theatre productions. This is my seventh year teaching elementary school and I truly love it. I have taught all grades between Grade 3 and Grade 7. I also spent a year teaching in a mostly online environment due to Covid concerns and this helped me learn how to maintain my teaching values in an online environment. My favourite thing about being a teacher is getting to know the unique personalities of each of my students, and nurturing their strengths and abilities. I truly believe that all children have special gifts they are just waiting to share.
I can't wait to connect with you!
