Week 1Lesson 1Violin Care and HoldIn this week's class, students will learn about the violin. They will learn how to hold it and take care of it. They will also practice tuning their instrument using the "Simply Tuner" application. We will learn how to perform pizzicato (plucking) on the open strings. PRACTICE: Practice holding your violin standing up, and setting up your shoulder rest to the position that is most comfortable for you. practice tuning your instrument. Memorize the names of your strings by playing in pizzicato.Week 2Lesson 2Learn To PizzicatoIn this week's class, students will continue to review tuning. We will learn about the music beat and what is the difference between beat and rhythm. They will practice playing beat and rhythm on their violin to different familiar tunes. Then, we will introduce theory fundamentals such as the staff, bar lines, and measures to understand the music in the book. Finally, we will play pieces 2–5 from the Essential Elements book. PRACTICE: Continue to practice tuning your instrument.Week 3Lesson 3Left-Hand Set-up/ "Old Macdonald Had A Farm"In this week's class, students will go on to learn how to place the left hand properly to play their very first notes on the D string. They will need to have their tapes. We will review the quarter note and quarter note rest rhythms, and will learn how to play other ones. Finally, students will learn how to play the beginning of one of their favorite childhood songs, "Old MacDonald Had a Farm." PRACTICE: Pages 8 and 10 in the book for review. Learn how to play the beginning of "Old MacDonald".Week 4Lesson 4The D Major Scale/ Notes on the A stringThis week, we will learn how to play the notes on the A string and the D major scale. We will understand what the music alphabet and where the notes are on the music staff. We will learn how to play "Baby Shark", "Twinkle, Twinkle", as well as the whole "Old MacDonald" song. PRACTICE: The D major scale and the songs we learned in class.Week 5Lesson 5Learning to Hold the BowIn this week's class, students will learn how to hold the bow correctly and produce their first sounds on the violin using the bow. We will do various rhythm exercises on the bow to prepare us to play with it. Lastly, we will revisit previous pizzicato exercises, but this time, playing through them using the bow! PRACTICE: Holding the bow and playing with it.Week 6Lesson 6How to Produce a Good SoundIn this week's class, students will review how to hold the bow and then learn what ingredients are necessary for producing a good tone on the violin using their bows. They will also learn the concept of using "bow lanes" when playing with their bows. We will also revisit more previous pizzicato exercises and play them with the bow. Lastly, students will learn how to play "A Mozart Melody" (Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star) with their bows. PRACTICE: Holding the bow.
Learners will learn to play in pizzicato and with the bow. They will also learn how to read basic rhythms and notes. As a final project, students will perform "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", "Hot Cross Buns" and "Old Macdonald Had a Farm".
I am offering this course because teaching violin is my passion. It is the instrument I love most and know most about, and I feel it is my calling to pass both my knowledge and love for this amazing instrument to others. I am a professional musician and a State-Certified K-12 Music teacher based in Miami, Florida. I hold a Master’s Degree in Music Education and a Bachelor's in Violin Performance from Florida International University. I have worked with pre-school and school-aged children for over five years, and have taught group music lessons as well as private music lessons to hundreds of students. I am passionate about passing on the love and knowledge I have for music to all of my students.

-Students will need the “Essential Elements Method Book 1” for violin which is $6.35. -A violin that comes with a Shoulder Rest, Rosin, and Strings is available on Amazon for $70, but you could also find cheaper ones online. I would recommend having an instrument stand, which will make practicing easier and more comfortable ($11.98). -Violin Tapes in the size of the student's violin.
