In this 4-week course, learners will begin to learn the fundamentals of the Japanese language, including the primary alphabets, common words and phrases, and the essentials of Japanese history and culture. Classes will be divided in half, with the first day of class each week dedicated to language acquisition and practice, and the second class being discussion of historical highlights and culture. Students will learn about Romaji, Hiragana, Katakana, and when to use each of the alphabets. They will be introduced to common greetings and other basic phrases for daily use. Discussion will be held about Japan’s history, interesting cultural points, and what to expect when traveling in Japan.
I majored in Asian Studies in college and specialized in Japanese. I studied the language and culture for all four years of my bachelor’s degree and was the official tutor for Japanese for my college. I studied abroad in Japan in 2018, and I have since tutored Japanese online and been a personal teacher for students in Japanese.
