Students will learn the ASL alphabet, number, colors, family signs(mom, dad, etc. ), animals signs(dog, cat,etc.) , and learn a little bit of conversation skills in a fun low pressure environment. This class will help students learn a basic foundation to American Sign Language. 

 I love American Sign Language and I enjoy teaching this beautiful language.  I have taken 4 years of formal ASL classes. I have also taught middle school ASL in a traditional classroom setting. I was also a 1st grade teacher for a few years!  I also enjoy signing songs in ASL for different events.  I have been teaching on Outschool for a year and have taught over 500 students! 
When a hearing person teaches ASL they are not just about teaching individual signs but rather teaching the whole package of ASL and Deaf culture. ASL is not just a signed version of English. It is made up of facial expressions, body language, non verbal signs, grammar and Deaf culture. The culture and community is so rich with history and values that should be taught right alongside the grammar and signs of ASL. When learning  and teaching ASL we all need to honor the language and culture by learning every aspect.
