📝Let's become better writers!📝  
"Be You and Become a Better Writer" classes are designed to help students improve their writing and express their individuality with the support and guidance of a K-12 certified English teacher. 

This class is designed to work one-on-one with learners who want to improve their writing across all categories. In this class, we will go through each step of the writing process for narrative, expository, poetry, and personal experiences while catering to each learner's interests (Be You!). 

📖Narrative:📖
We will learn how to take each part and break it down to produce a perfect story through mini-lessons that work on story beginnings, descriptive detail, building suspense, creating a climax, and extended story endings. These parts of the story will be modeled and practiced, and learners will create their own unique story along the way. This unit is about 7 weeks long.

📝Expository:📝
We will learn about the 5 types of text structures and create 5 essays over the course of the unit. Each type will be covered over a 2-week period or longer if needed. We will learn specific expository writing strategies including how to write introductions and conclusions, transitions, writing main ideas, and revising details. We will also learn how to organize our writing as well as revise and edit it. The types of writing focused on will include: sequence, description, compare & contrast, problem & solution, and cause & effect. This unit is about 11-16 weeks long depending on how much is done independently.

✍🏻Poetry:✍🏻
We will learn about figurative language, analyzing poems, and how to write different types of poems. Learners will create 8 different poems of their own. This unit is about 8 weeks long.

📒Personal Narrative:📒
Using what has been learned in the narrative unit and poetry unit, we will learn how to turn our personal experiences into stories using narrative writing strategies and figurative language. The goal is to move away from retelling events that happened and creating an entertaining story from the experience. This unit is about 6-12 weeks long depending on how much is done independently.

Learners do not have to complete all units and may request to begin with certain units. Every lesson also includes revising and editing practice as a warm-up. 

The writing process for these units will also include:
~💡Prewriting (brainstorming ideas)
~📝Drafting (organization of ideas) 
~🔨Revising (adding/removing words and sentences, developing voice) 
~🔧Editing (correcting grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc)
~📓Publication (formatting the final draft) 

These sessions are tailored to meet the needs of each learner based on his or her writing ability. I am a highly-qualified, certified K-12 English Teacher that has taught 5th-grade writing in the classroom for 7 years. I have been working with learners online for the last three years to improve their writing and would love to help your learner as well! I have read some amazing stories, convincing essays, inspirational poems, and thrilling experiences come out of this class so far, and I can't wait to see what your learner is capable of!

If your learner would prefer to complete the lessons independently with weekly video feedback from me, they are also offered as FLEX classes. 
The narrative, poetry, and expository lessons are also offered as LIVE 8-week courses and the personal narratives lessons are offered as two 4-day camps if your learner prefers working in a small group with no more than 6 learners per class. 

If your learner is needing help completing school assignments, I also offer one-on-one assistance with homework.  These are one-time sessions that can be booked until the needs of the assignment are met.
