수업 소개

Learners will start with one part of their room that they most wish to learn how to organize for greater enjoyment and less parent/kid stress. Along the way, students will learn their organizing style and key organizing principles involved in sustaining a tidy room.

1)We'll start each week by going over a key organizing concept.

2) Then the learner will assess a specific room zone used for a specific activity, while thinking about this concept. They will brainstorm, making a list to decide what's working and what's not working in this area of their room.

3) The learner will gather all the items in that area,
-sort the items into groups,
-purge unwanted items -- or potentially unwanted items
-and finally organize and contain all the wanted items.
(They may need to source container items from your home or I will work with you on container solutions you may need to buy. We never buy until we know the specific size and purpose of the container needed, and we seek solutions from the home at first.)

4) After learners tame their first mess, they move on to organize the second mess that really bothers them. They will use the new principles each week. Students average 2 - 6 classes to complete their room purge and organization. After that they can drop in when they need to review or refresh their reset skills.

5) At the end of each class, we'll discuss What Would Hermione Do? when it comes to room reset and how she benefits from having an organized room.
She has more time, less stress. She never forgets things or can't find things. She never feels bad fighting with her parents about the state of her room. By making the tidy room an aspiration to live up to, it becomes less of a power battle between learner and parent.
Instead she is ready and organized to fight evil and practice spells.
We'll finish our discussion with talking about what kinds of activities we really enjoy daily, weekly, and monthly--and where we enjoy doing them. Some students may prefer an enclosed, cozy space. Others may prefer a room where they can see all their treasures about them. We'll talk about the bedroom as a machine for living our best lives.

6) Before we leave each week, we reinforce the following three principles:
-make sure that the things which bring us joy are on display
-that items we love and frequently use are a pleasure to take out and put away every time
-we have a habit of a daily 'reset' -- a time to put things away in the learner's room.

The most important part of this process is that we are all unique. What will work for you won't necessarily work for your learner. We'll figure out how to negotiate between your organizational styles, so that by the end of our process your child will love their room and you will too!

그 외 세부 사항

학습 요구
Students with ADHD can execute skills in this class, but may need parental support, shorter sessions, and 1:1 instruction.
사전 요구 사항
Students must be able to focus enough to gather instructions and execute them on camera, then return for more instructions.
수업 자료
Students should bring to class a notebook or paper that they can use to draw in, lined or unlined. We will be making a map of our rooms.

This class is about organizing physical spaces. As a result, there may be suggestions about the need for containers or furniture to help stay organized. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING BEFORE STARTING THE CLASS. Often there are inexpensive answers to these problems--such a utilizing Facebook Marketplace for desks or shelves, or using shoe boxes for storage solutions.

There is nothing this instructor enjoys more than taming chaos. As a teacher of teens, kids, and college students for over 25 years, I've noticed that students who excel in college are almost always consistently organized and ready for what comes next. A long time fan of Julie Morgenstern and Marie Kondo (organizing goddesses), I'm also savvy about the use of time management skills and bullet journals since my job has always relied upon self-scheduling multiple projects and a need to tame the paper tiger that comes with being a writer. I've been helping friends tame their offices and schedules for years, and now I'm happy to offer this class to kids who are bright and know they can shine--but for whatever reason are mired down and as a result often seem disorganized to others.
