수업 소개

No prior knowledge needed. This tutoring class creates a comfortable and enjoyable environment for students to learn at their own pace while expanding their knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf culture. I will assess your child's strengths to determine a starting point, and following the assessment, a personalized learning plan will be developed to cater to their needs and learning style.

Each session will be tailored to the student's current ASL proficiency level, with ongoing assessments to adjust lessons as necessary. I strongly encourage students to practice their skills for at least 30 minutes daily and incorporate the language into their everyday lives to master the current skill.

Feel free to contact me in advance to discuss your learner's goals, learning abilities, or if you have any questions. Information provided, such as goals, preferences, learning styles, favorite colors, etc., will be utilized to customize an individual learning plan for your learner.

Understanding your learner's preferred learning styles will guide me in incorporating those preferences into their lesson plans and study techniques.

Tutoring sessions will consist of the following:

Interactive Lessons: In my tutoring sessions, I prioritize lively and interactive engagement to ensure active participation from young learners. Incorporating games, stories, and visual aids, I create an immersive environment that keeps sessions both engaging and enjoyable.

Customized Curriculum: I am dedicated to tailoring a curriculum that suits each learner's unique needs, considering factors such as age, proficiency level, and individual learning goals. Whether your child is just starting out or has prior ASL knowledge, I adapt the content and pace to facilitate optimal progress.

Vocabulary Building: I place a strong emphasis on expanding the learner's ASL vocabulary by introducing new signs in every session. Through repetition, targeted practice activities, and visual aids, I assist learners in memorizing and effectively using a wide range of ASL signs in their daily communication.

Grammar and Syntax: Guiding learners in understanding the structural nuances of ASL, I focus on teaching fundamental aspects such as sentence formation, word order, and non-manual markers. This comprehensive approach enhances the learner's ability to express themselves fluently and accurately in ASL.

Conversational Skills: I prioritize the development of conversational proficiency in ASL, encouraging learners to engage in meaningful dialogues and exchanges using sign language. Through interactive role-playing activities and partner interactions, learners gain confidence in expressing themselves fluently across various everyday scenarios.

Cultural Understanding: Beyond language instruction, I provide valuable insights into Deaf culture and etiquette, fostering cultural awareness and sensitivity among young learners. By exploring the cultural context surrounding ASL, learners develop a deeper appreciation for the language and its vibrant community.

Assessments and Progress Tracking: I conduct regular assessments to evaluate the learner's progress and pinpoint areas for improvement. Offering constructive feedback and personalized guidance, I support learners in overcoming challenges and reaching their desired proficiency level in ASL.

Please note that all topics are subject to change to meet the learners' needs and pace of learning. Adjustments may be made based on individual progress, interests, and feedback from the students.

Greetings,👋🏽
I'm Jacqueline, affectionately known as Mrs. Jae by my students. Guiding individuals through the realms of ASL is a passion close to my heart. My aspiration is to introduce students to the captivating beauty of American Sign Language and foster a deeper connection to Deaf Culture. Join me in exploring ASL, Deaf Culture, Deaf History, and more, as we embark on a journey of learning and growth.

My purpose is to empower and inspire every student to embrace this captivating language and culture. My ultimate goal? Bridging communication gaps, nurturing confidence, and encouraging meaningful connections within the Deaf community.

My journey in ASL and Deaf Culture has spanned numerous years of continuous dedicated study. I embarked on this path during my high school years. Through my educational journey, I earned a bachelor's degree in Human Services with a minor in Interpreting American Sign Language, and an associates degree in American Sign Language Interpreter Training. My qualifications extend to two certifications; Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education, and ASL Communication Skills.

My connection to the Deaf community remains robust, with ongoing engagement. I've had the privilege to teach American Sign Language in vocational schools and nonprofit organizations. My commitment extends beyond the classroom, as I actively volunteer to raise awareness about Deaf Culture, and ASL.

Here's a glimpse of my annual class sequence, carefully crafted to guide your progress:

1. Welcome to the World of ASL! American Sign Language for Beginners (ASL Part 1): Embark on your ASL journey with fundamental language skills and cultural insights.

2. Grammar in 3D: Beginners ASL Grammar & Sentence Structure (ASL Part 2): Dive deeper into ASL's intricate grammar and sentence construction.

3. Keep Calm and Sign On! (ASL Part 3): Enhance your signing fluency and expressive abilities.

4. Listen With Your Eyes: ASL Part 4: Refine your receptive skills and develop a deeper understanding of signed communication.

5. Hands-On ASL: Intermediate American Sign Language (ASL Part 5): Further advance your proficiency and broaden your vocabulary.

Remember, learning a new language is not only an exercise for the brain, but also a gateway to expanded communication skills and new friendships. I'm excited to guide you on this remarkable journey of discovery and connection.
