아키텍처 101: 형태는 기능을 따른다 - 주 1회 수업

**This course is identical to another one I teach but I am changing the meeting structure to 1x a week for families that cannot accommodate 2x a week.**

Architecture is the meeting of form and function. This is the most important phrase that is constantly said in architecture. During this 4 class series we will examine what that exactly means. We will look at various architectural achievements and assess beauty, structural integrity, and how these things are developed. 

Day 1: Intro to Architecture
We will look at the basic principles and brief look at historical impact of architecture. We will look at the pyramids, classic architecture, gothic cathedrals, Eiffel Tower, art deco, and modern architecture to get an understanding of the influence. Learners will engage through lecture and answer various questions on architecture. We will also cover the beginning principles of architecture: line, color, shape, size, texture, space and value. Also discuss the most important element of architecture usage and psychology of architecture. 
Homework: Learners will be creating their own font on paper. 

Day 2: Scaling
We will look at scaling, shading, shapes, and design. It is important to understand that buildings are drawn to scale. We will review how to read a ruler and do an activity. Students will need a pack of cards to make a card house and a lamp to observe shading. Students will also practice shading skills and review 3D shapes. We will also reference Disneyland as being a place that uses a lot of scaling technics for place making.
Homework: Learner will draw one wall or room to scale 1/20".

Day 3: Materials
This week we will look at materials. We will be looking at bridges like the Golden Gate Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge and some buildings like Casa Batllo, Casa Mila, and Notre Dame, The Gherkin to observe the changing materials and see what problems the materials fixed. We will also discuss various styles of architecture to further our understanding of form follows function.
Homework: Learners will create their vision of a building, bridge, or building. They need to discuss materials, style, and discuss what problems this will solve. 

Day 4: Last day!
For the final class we will review what we covered for the week during the course. We will introduce the related topic of planning and how architecture and planning go together. We will discuss what makes a city and identify key things neighborhoods and cities need. We will also conduct our short presentations on what we created.
