Architects talk about scale in different ways.  In general, scale is the size of something in relation to something else.  We can use a "scale figure" in an image or model to give us context so we can approximate how big or small a structure is.  

Scale is also a tool used for measured drawings. It's an essential tool used by architects, engineers, map-makers and designers. Students will learn all about scale, how to use it, and draw it graphically as a scale bar. We will use graph paper and ruler to draw room sizes to 1/4" = 1' scale. We will then construct a simple floor plan and calculate area in square footage. Lastly, instructions are given to measure and draw a room in the learner's own house at a different scale (1/2" or 1" = 1').  Practicing working in more than one scale helps solidify understanding.

For this one week class, students will receive links to short videos which they can watch at their own pace.  Two hands-on projects are given.  Learners can message the teacher or post on the classroom page throughout the week with any questions or to share their work.
