Students will drive the lesson and determine the topic for the next lesson. We will start with a brief introduction to the topic and follow that with a Q&A session. Students will learn about topics including Topics include: Fish compatibility issues, how to read a compatibility chart, keeping marine tanks, raising coral, freshwater plants, making your own filter, 3 types of filtration your tank must have, schooling and shoaling fish, how to introduce new fish to your tank, water quality and testing, making your own fish food, fish breeding, substrate choices, and any other topics they wish to investigate or learn about.
Mrs. Carr is a retired marine biologist who teaches biology, chemistry, and aquatic science in high school. She maintains 24 aquariums at school and 8 at home, including freshwater, saltwater and reef tanks. She is also the vice president of her local fish club, the Raleigh Aquarium Society. Generally she gets in trouble at parties for talking about her fish too much, and she can always be found examining the nearest fish tank and she spends her vacations visiting state and local aquariums.
