Students will learn how to perform a close reading of difficult texts through annotating an age-appropriate, but difficult text with the teacher. Students will be taught different tips and tricks to annotating to help them understand the text better through close reading with the teacher. I have taught annotating and close reading my entire professional career. I am also trained in AVID reading strategies and am trained as an AP Language and Composition teacher. Annotations are strategies that are strongly supported by both programs as being one of the most important skills for students to have to be successful readers.
The Teacher will Provide: - Notes and Information on Annotating - Articles for Annotations - Helpful Documents and Hints The Students will Need To and Need to Have Available: - Print out the documents provided - One highlighter - Post-It notes (or something similar) - A pen or pencil *** Note that not all materials will be used. But they need to be available so that students can choose to use what works best for them.***
