Students will learn about the evolution of Suines (the pig family) The topics covered will be as follows 1) Branching in the Late Eocene 2) Doliochoerids-the forgotten proto-pigs 3) The Pig/Peccary split 4) Sanitheriids-the water pigs 5) Basal pigs 6) Hyotheriine pigs 7) Listrodontines-the horned pigs 8) Kubanochoerines-the mega pigs 9)Tetraconodontines-bumpy nosed pigs 10) Potamochoerines-river hogs 11) Hippohyines-the horse pigs??? 12) Babyrousines-the deer pigs 13)Phacochoerines-the warthogs 14) Quick look at pig domestication The class will be structured along the evolutionary history of the pig family. I will teach using images (either commissioned by me or used with artist permission). There will be no video clips since there are currently no documentaries on the evolution of pigs that I am aware of currently. Otherwise it will also be discussion. My teaching style can be described as interactive. Learners will get to interact with me and each other primarily through discussion. No required experience or knowledge needed.

I was trained in paleontology at the University of Alberta under paleontologist Philip J. Currie. I have worked in the education Department at the Smithsonian Natural History museum since 2019 and am still an educator there. I have been on several digs with paleontologist Paul Sereno and have been mentored by Paleontologist Thomas Holtz. I have also helped co-write paleo writer, Mark Witton, specifically on the vocalization of Cretaceous mammals, the rise of lepidopterans and non-aggressive potential relationships between Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops.
