In this course, we will go deeper into the decisions coaches and general managers make in sports. We will look primarily at the major team sports: basketball, basketball, and football, but this course will also allow us to look at some high profile individual sports like golf and tennis. The course is structured to have some introductory insights from Mr. Zavada, then an interactive, web-based activity that may include some calculations, and then some discussions. We also utilize design and design thinking concepts to help solve problems that teams have. My teaching style is interactive and collaborative. I use the Socratic Method, seminar-style teaching, and some hands-on activities. We use websites, Google learning platforms like Google Sheets and Docs, video clips of sports in action, and some online simulators. While it is not necessary to have had Math and Sports Analytics, this course is intended as the follow-up to it and will move deeper faster. Basic understanding of Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Percentages, and some Algebra are helpful. There are no grades, but these items really help students stay with the conversation.

Students will get a better understanding of the calculations, theories, collaboration, and experimentation it takes to either Coach or serve as General Manager for sports teams.
Day 1: Sport by Sport Analysis of the Changes in Approach to the Way the Games are Played based on Analytics
1. NBA Shot Chart: Why Are More 3 Pointers Taken?
2. NFL and the Running Back: Why did the stars of the game used to be Running Backs and now they are not as important in Today's NFL.
Day 2
3. MLB Baseball: Why is it all about launch angle, Openers, and why have bunts and stolen bases disappeared.
4. Soccer, Hockey, Golf, Tennis and other Sports: What can motion detection and other player personal monitors tell us about how sports improvement is done?
Day 3
5. Based on what we have learned about the changes in sports, how have the Drafts changed
6. NBA and NFL Draft Simulators
Day 4
7. Moneyball analysis: what are the most important Math concepts today and how can you begin studying them.

Parents should maintain controls on all internet connections and Youtube. We do go to videos and doing so may give students ideas to go to YouTube and other venues unsupervised. The videos we show are all sports-related and educational, however, a student this age left to their own devices might not be prudent.

Strong internet connection with the ability to do research on another device while we are talking or on a split-screen. Sometimes there are optional artistic opportunities that include poster boards and markers for the design of team posters/marketing materials for the teams that the students design.
