In this one-time class, students will explore the powerful and versatile AC-130 gunship, a heavily armed close air support aircraft used by the U.S. Air Force. Learners will discover how this aircraft operates in wartime missions, the evolution of its design, and the roles of the crew members who make these complex operations possible. We’ll cover both the scientific and historical aspects of the AC-130—from its weapon systems and sensors to its tactical use in real-world conflicts. Students will learn about the different variants of the aircraft and how each one has adapted to meet changing mission needs. The class includes a teacher-led PowerPoint presentation, optional note-taking worksheet with aircraft images, and plenty of opportunities for discussion and questions. No homework is assigned, and no prior knowledge of aviation is required—just a curious mind!
