수업 소개

This is a unique approach to history class, where we delve deeper into the subject beyond the typical high-level historical facts. The aim of this approach is to make history more engaging and fun, while still ensuring that the students learn valuable lessons.

The ultimate goal of this class is to foster a love for learning and to show students that history doesn't have to be stiff and boring. It is my hope that your child will leave the class with a newfound interest in history and an understanding of the valuable lessons that can be learned from studying the past.

The exciting twist is that each week, as we dive into our history lessons, we'll also discover the foods people enjoyed during that era! After each class, snack and recipe cards will be provided for the adventurous students eager to give them a try! (Some silly, some surprisingly delicious, and some downright gross!)

This class does not deep dive into any one particular culture or group. We stay on high-level topics and facts. During my time in college, I took several history classes that I've pulled from to create this unique curriculum. I've also taken many liberal arts classes on perspective and social psychology which allow me to teach history in a non-biased and multidisciplinary way, incorporating a multitude of perspectives. We will be looking at history through different historical lenses: social, political, and economic and how that applies to the thematic categories: emotional intelligence, self-care, career connections, and ethics.

*Please see the syllabus for a breakdown of topics covered.

Parents, please be aware of any food restrictions your child may have. Recipe cards are intended to be fun, but you know your child's limitations. There are several wars covered and when we get into medicine through the ages kids love being grossed out over some of the weirder medical practices. Nothing is graphic in nature and should be suitable for children above the age of 10. YouTube and Blooket are used in class for educational videos and game-reviewed flashcards.
수업 자료
Everything will be provided in class.
For the best experience, students should attend class on a laptop, desktop, or iPad, but not on a mobile device or attempting to join class while in the car. (It never goes well!)

My degrees are in child psychology and creative writing. During my time in college, I elected to take every history class I could, simply because I have a passion for it! I have also completed US History and World History from Sophia.org for extra CE training.
