Students will compare and contrast characters and events in the story. Students will summarize the chapters and the story. Students will look for descriptive details in the story to form pictures in their mind. Students will learn the important things in life and not to take them for granted through the characters in the story. Students will learn other literary devices to help better understand the story and to make it more meaningful.
I have been an elementary classroom teacher for 18 years. I have taught this novel study many times to my 3rd graders in Reading.

Please be aware that we will discuss what the time period was like that the story is set in. It is set in the 1970s New York when life was a lot different. We will also read about and discuss sibling rivalry and arguments, etc.
