Have you ever wondered what’s happening in your mind? Have you ever wondered how we think? How about how the mind and body work together? Have you ever been curious about human behavior? If so, then this is your class! Come join in as we explore the basics of how the mind works in a brief introduction to psychology! In this class, students will learn basic psychology. We will learn about psychological and emotional development. We will also talk about what happens at each stage of personality development, from birth to adulthood. We will cover basic psychological disorders and we will talk about some of the cutting edge technology that is used in the field. Through the use of class discussions and classroom forum discussions, we will learn the basics of psychology. We will use hands- on activities, readings and interactive games to understand the workings of the mind! Students will also conduct independent research to gain an understanding of basic psychology. This is an introductory class and no prerequisite knowledge is required! Student progress is evaluated through participation in class discussions and completion of assignments. Students will have one in class and one out of class assignment per week and a culmination project due at the completion of the class! Week 1: Introduction and theories of processing and personality Week 2: Developmental ages, stages and crises Week 3: Abnormal psychology Week 4: Behavior
