In this 8th grade math tutoring class, students will get targeted support on high-impact topics like linear equations, functions, systems of equations, geometry, and statistics—topics often seen on standardized tests. Each session focuses on reviewing key concepts, practicing problem-solving, and building confidence through real-time feedback. The class is structured as a series of focused, interactive and gamified lessons. We’ll begin each session with a quick review or warm-up, dive into guided practice using digital slides and examples, and then spend time working through problems together. I’ll incorporate short games or brain breaks when appropriate to keep engagement high. My teaching style is clear, supportive, and flexible. I break down tough concepts in a way that makes sense, and I encourage students to ask questions, think out loud, and try multiple strategies. Learners will interact with me throughout class through discussion, shared whiteboards, polls, and direct help on problems they’re stuck on.

My name is Mrs. Nuno, and I’m thrilled to support your child’s math journey this year.
For the past eight years I have taught 8th‑grade mathematics and Algebra I, guiding hundreds of middle‑schoolers through the crucial transition from arithmetic to algebraic thinking.
Teaching settings & formats:
Brick‑and‑mortar public middle school: I began my career in a traditional public middle school, where I planned and delivered daily instruction, led math clubs, and coached students for regional math competitions. I also mentor new teachers for our district and help design GATE curriculum.
When schools pivoted online, I designed interactive Zoom lessons that used digital whiteboards, breakout rooms, and self‑checking Desmos/GeoGebra activities. Each summer, I also facilitate virtual credit‑recovery Algebra courses, helping students master missed standards and regain confidence.
STEM enrichment: I regularly weave real‑world science applications—like bottle‑rocket experiments and data‑collection projects—into algebra units so students see mathematics as a living, problem‑solving language.
Experience working with children
Middle‑school focus: 8th graders (ages 13‑14) are my specialty, but I’ve also tutored grades 6‑9 and mentored first‑year high‑schoolers as they transition into Geometry and Algebra II.
