This class will meet from late August to late May!! We will cover a full year of seventh grade math! I love teaching math and can’t wait to meet your child! Building relationships with my students is very important in my math classroom! I also encourage students to build relationships with each other in our class. I strive to create a classroom where everyone feels welcome and excited to share their problem solving strategies and ideas!! Each class will begin with a mini lesson about a new topic. Students will record notes in their math notebook. We will complete a couple examples together and then I will give the students a chance to try some on their own. I will use the chat box, discussion, the interactive whiteboard, google slides, and games throughout the year to engage learners in the new material! Following each live meeting an optional homework assignment will be posted. Students may submit this to me through a message for feedback! I will encourage students to make corrections and resubmit! Schedule for Fall of 2024: Week of 8/26: Ratios, unit rate, unit rate with ratios of fractions Week of 9/2: (no class Monday, refunded half the cost) introduction to proportions and cross multiplication. Week 9/9: Proportion word problems with tables and graphs Week 9/16: Represent proportional relationships in equations and tables. Week of 9/23: Percent of a number, Percent proportion Week of 9/30: Calculate tax and tip, discounts Week of 10/7: Calculate percent of change, percent error Week of 10/14: Solve problems with scale drawings of geometric shapes Week of 10/21: Review and extension week!!!!!!!!!! Week of 10/28: (No class Wednesday, refunded half the cost) adding, subtracting, and multiplying decimals with algebra (substitution) Week of 11/4: Dividing decimals, converting fractions to decimals with long division Week of 11/11: Operations with fractions Week of 11/18: What is an integer? Adding and subtracting integers (positive and negative whole numbers) using pictures, number lines, mental math, and a trick or two! Week of 11/25: No class, no charge! Week of 12/2: What is a rational number? Adding and subtracting rational numbers. Week of 12/9: Multiplying and dividing integers and rational numbers. Hi!! I’m Mrs. Drye. I have a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from UNC Chapel Hill and a Masters Degree in Middle Grades Math Education from UNC-Charlotte. I was a NC Teaching Fellow and Teacher of the Year when I taught 6th grade math! As a teacher I focus on building relationships with students so that I can help them to build their math confidence. I focus on differentiating learning for each of my students. I can extend learning for some learners while helping others to review a topic that’s tough for them. I encourage students to share their math thinking and guide them in learning new strategies. I also keep class fun and exciting with games, discussion, and songs! I taught 5th and 6th grade for 8 years before deciding to stay home and homeschool my three girls. My daughters are now 10, 8, and almost 6! I enjoy exploring new places, teaching, and exercising!
