Welcome to 5th Grade Math! In this 8 week class, we will learn skills taught in 1st quarter of 5th grade math. Students will learn through lecture and practice. Students are able to show their work on the screen or by using paper and pencil or a white board and marker. Students will be encouraged to explain how they got their answers and "teach" the steps used to solve problems.

Week 1Lesson 1Place Value, Multiplication and Division FluencyWarm up with place value review (digits, value of digits, expanded and standard form). Learn about the relationship between place values ( _ is 10 times smaller than 600). Comparing numbers to the 10,000's place. Finish up with multiplication and division fluency.Lesson 2Addition and Subtraction Word Problems, Multiplication and Division FluencyWarm up with relationship between place value. Addition and Subtraction fluency and word problems. Finish with multiplication and division fluency.Week 2Lesson 3Addition, Subtraction Word Problems, RoundingWarm up with addition and subtraction word problems. Find missing digits in an equations to get the sum or difference ( __-__=473 use digits 3,7,9,3). Rounding numbers to the tens, hundreds, and thousands place.Lesson 4Roman Numerals, Multiplication Word Problems, Prime and Composite NumbersWarm up with Roman Numerals. Multiplication word problems and finding factors of numbers. Learn about prime and composite numbers.Week 3Lesson 5Multiplication, Division, LCM, GCF, ExponentsWarm up with multiplication and division. least common multiple and greatest common factors. Exponents.Lesson 6Multiplication, Division, ExponentsWarm up with multiplication and division. Exponents.Week 4Lesson 7Exponents, Multiplying 3 NumbersWarm up with area and perimeter. Exponents. Practice multiplying 3 different numbers.Lesson 8Division and Long DivisionWarm up with division and long division. Work on dividing by 2 digit numbers.Week 5Lesson 9Money Operations, Time and Elapsed TimeWarm up with counting, adding, and subtracting money. Work on multiplying and dividing money. Telling time and elapsed time.Lesson 102D Shapes2D Shapes. Polygons, sides, angles, points, lines, line segments, rays, parallel, perpendicular, and intersecting lines. Types of angles.Week 6Lesson 113D Shapes3D shapes- identifying, vertices, edges, faces, nets.Lesson 12MultiplicationWe will work on multiplication.Week 7Lesson 13DivisionWe will work on long division.Lesson 14FactorsWe will work on factors and greatest common factors.Week 8Lesson 15Review WeekWe will review the skills that we have practiced in 1st quarter of 5th grade.Lesson 16AssessmentWe will have an assessment over the skills we have learned.
