This will be an engaging, hands on, fourth grade math class! We will learn new skills through slides, videos, lecture, partner work, and hands on activities. This is an ongoing class, allowing you to join at any point and leave at any point. We will often review with either a game or activity in class. We will learn a new topic each week, and I will attach practice games and worksheets each week. I am a licensed teacher, and I have always loved teacher math! I have been a teacher for eight years, and I am excited to teach your forth grade student from the comfort of your home! All students should be ready for fourth grade math standards.
Here are standards that will be covered in semester 1:

:Add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers fluently using a standard algorithmic approach. Read and write whole numbers up to 1,000,000. Use words, models, standard form and expanded form to represent and show
equivalent forms of whole numbers up to 1,000,000.

Compare two whole numbers up to 1,000,000 using >, =, and < symbols. Use place value understanding to round multi-digit whole numbers to any given place value.

Identify, describe, and draw rays, angles (right, acute, obtuse), and perpendicular and parallel lines using appropriate tools

Identify, describe, and draw parallelograms, rhombuses, and trapezoids using appropriate tools. Recognize angles as geometric shapes that are formed wherever two rays share a common endpoint

Recognize and draw lines of symmetry in two-dimensional figures. Identify figures that have lines of symmetry. Classify triangles and quadrilaterals based on the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular lines, or the presence or absence of
angles (right, acute, obtuse).

Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles to solve real-world problems and other mathematical problems. Recognize area as additive and find the area of complex shapes composed of rectangles by decomposing them into non-overlapping rectangles and adding the areas of the non-overlapping parts; apply this technique to solve real-world problems and other mathematical problems.

Week of October 16: Area and Perimeter Review + Adding and Subtracting Fractions with same denominator

Week of October 23: Area and Perimeter Review + Equivalent fractions - equivalent fractions

Week of October 30 **No class** Fall Break**

Week of November 6: Factors and Prime Factors + Reduce/Simplify Fractions

Week of November 13: Know relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units, including km, m, cm; kg, g; lb, oz; l, ml; hr, min, sec. Express measurements in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit within a single system of measurement. Record measurement equivalents in a two column table.

Week of November 20: Write tenths and hundredths in decimal and fraction notations. Use words, models, standard form and expanded form to represent decimal numbers to hundredths. Know the fraction and decimal equivalents for halves and fourths

Week of November 27: Add, Subtract and Compare two decimals to hundredths by reasoning about their size based on the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <,

Week of December 4: Introduction to variables AND Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number.

Week of December 11: Expansion of variables and Multiply 2 digit by 2 digit numbers

Week of December 18: Word problems with multiplication, division, decimals, and fractions.

Multiplication with 2 and 3 digits x 1 and 2 digits, coordinate graph

Semester 2 Standards

Week 1: Practice division facts/ look at facts with remainders. + Bar graphs

Week 2: Long division with up to 3 digits by 1 digit. Learn long division steps - no remainders this week. Interpret data displayed in a picture graph and bar graph

Week3: Long division up to 4 digits by 1 digit, use long division steps - with remainders this week. Interpret and make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8).

Week4: addition and subtraction of fractions having same denominators - simplify fractions Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Solve problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions by using data displayed in line plots

Week5: addition and subtraction of fractions having common denominators (Students will need to change denominators) - equivalent fractions

Week 6: equivalent fractions and simplify fractions, also adding subtracting fractions with different denominators in word problems.

Week 7: Add and subtract mixed numbers with common denominators (e.g. by replacing each mixed number with an equivalent fraction and/or by using properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction).

Week 8: Solve real-world problems with whole numbers involving multiplicative comparison (e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem), distinguishing multiplicative comparison from additive comparison. AND Interpret a multiplication equation as a comparison (e.g., interpret 35 = 5 × 7 as a statement that 35 is 5 times as many as 7, and 7 times as many as 5). Represent verbal statements of multiplicative comparisons as multiplication equations.

Week 9: Spring Break

Week 10: Order of Operations

Week 11: Measure length to the nearest centimeter and millimeter. Convert between cm and mm

Week 12: Measure length to the nearest quarter-inch, eighth-inch

Week 13: Perimeter with missing sides

Week 14: Area

Week 15: Equivalent fractions and fractional sets with pictures

Week 16: Reduce/Simplify Fractions/ fractional sets without pictures

Week 17: Clocks and money/ word problems with money

Week 18: Review problems with variables and Solve real-world problems involving addition and subtraction of multi-digit whole numbers (e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem). Adding sundae toppings/perimeter of larger spaces/people at a concert.

Week 19: Understand that an equation, such as y = 3x + 5, is a rule to describe a relationship between two variables and can be used to find a second number when a first number is given. Generate a number pattern that follows a given rule

Week20 : Express whole numbers as fractions and recognize fractions that are equivalent to whole numbers. Name and write mixed numbers using objects or pictures. Name and write mixed numbers as improper fractions using objects or pictures.

Week 21: yearly review

수업 자료
Students should bring white board and marker to class - we will use Nearpod in class - you will not need to download anything, students will be given a new link each class. This is very interactive, it works on most devices, but is easiest on a computer.

Hello! My name is Mrs. Neal! I am a licensed teacher in the state of Indiana. I have been teaching on Outschool for five years, teaching 3rd - 6th reading/LA and Math! I taught 3rd grade for 7 years, and loved every second of it! I always knew I had a passion for math, but becoming a teacher taught me that I also have a love and passion for reading and teaching kids to love reading! My goal is always to create a classroom where students feel valued, successful, wanted, and smart! I keep my classroom positive and expect kindness and respect from all students.
I am also a mother of three, two boys ages 18 and 7 and a girl age 14. I did step away from the classroom four years ago in order to stay home with my kids. We live in Indiana during the summer and go to Florida for the winter months - I love showing my students the ocean and allowing them to see what we have seen on our adventures during the week.
I am very excited to meet you and your student in class!
