수업 소개

In this ongoing class, students are taught one art topic each week. They learn how to apply this knowledge and how masters have applied it throughout art history. Each week a project is begun during class and then finished later when the learners find time to work on it.

With the understanding that student schedules can be unpredictable, lessons and projects are designed to be self-contained. Students can join in at any time and immediately feel welcome and involved. Projects do not extend beyond the week in which they are presented.

Here is a list of each subject that will be covered and what art supplies will be needed for that day:

Week of January 9th: "What is Art?" A discussion of why people have always created art and what its purpose is.
Materials: Bring art that the student has made and is proud of OR a piece of art they particularly admire. ALSO bring blank paper and any colored drawing implements (colored pencils, markers, crayons)

Week of January 16th: "The Golden Rectangle" Understanding how ratios and math influence our perceptions.
Materials: Pencil, Eraser, ruler, blank paper (such as copy paper or printer paper). Coloring instruments (colored pencils, crayons, or markers)

Week of January 23rd: "Contours & Contour Lines" Noticing the edges of subjects.
Materials: Pencil, eraser, blank paper (such as copy paper or printer paper), a black marker (fine point sharpie preferred), a small toy that fits in the hand such as an animal figurine, a car, or an object built from legos.

Week of January 30th: "Cross Contour Lines" How cross-contours create depth.
Materials: There will be a printout provided ahead of class. You will also need a pencil, eraser, and coloring implements (colored pencils, markers, crayons)

Week of February 6th: "Values & Gradients" Understanding the light and dark of everything.
Materials: Paper and a pencil and eraser.

Week of February 13th: "Photography" The history of photography and tricks to great photos.

Currently on hiatus from teaching. I'm writing and illustrating D&D-related books.

I am a semi-retired cartoonist and children's book illustrator. These days I stay busy teaching on Outschool and I also write and illustrate books on drawing and for Dungeons & Dragons.
