Each week includes an official science journal, supply list and corresponding instructional video. We will learn scientific terms in a hands-on and simple way. Week 1Lesson 12-in-1 Soap Science and Surface TensionAdult supervision is required as we observe and record what happens while we microwave soap. Discover what happens when we place red pepper flakes in water. Lastly, watch our pepper break the surface tension with a magical chemical reaction.Week 2Lesson 22-in-1 Changing PenniesExplore the chemical change behind pennies as we make dirty pennies shine like new. Then, record a three day experiment as we observe our pennies change over time.Week 3Lesson 3Slinky PhysicsWhat's more fun than a slinky? Learn about springs and discover Neuton's Third Law as we adjust slope and record our findings.Week 4Lesson 4Buoyancy with a Cartesian Diver BottleLearn about buoyancy and density in this magical experiment. What will sink and what will float? Create fun divers that will bob up and down as we squeeze and release our bottles.
Soap Science: • An adult must be present during this activity from start to finish! • Wide shallow dish or microwave safe plastic bowl • Water • Red pepper flakes • 3 Different Bars of soap (1 needs to be Ivory) • Microwave Bottle Diver: • Transparent plastic bottle nearly full of water (mineral water bottles, cola bottles, etc) • Drinking Straws • Paper Clips • Scissors Slinky Physics: • Something to make a ramp with (plywood, whiteboard, tote lid, etc). • Several books/blocks to adjust slope • Slinky • Stopwatch Changing Pennies: • 3 Dull Copper Pennies (Pennies from 1982 or earlier work even better because they are made of solid copper) • Paper Towel or Cotton Pad • 1/4 White Vinegar • 1 Teaspoon Table Salt • Small Bowl (non-metal) • Small Container With Lid (non-metal)
