Students will gain experience analyzing fiction text for setting, theme, plot, figures of speech, and character study. Students will also practice paragraph writing through weekly writing activities.

I've taught numerous age groups in various settings over the years.  I love discussing books and inspiring students to read more. Taking turns is promoted and guided in all of my classes, so that the talkative and shy alike can participate.

Weekly reading and optional writing assignments are given during each class.  Almost all of the reading is done independently outside of class. Students are expected to read about 50-60 pages a week from the Charlotte's Web novel.  Since reading speed varies widely, consider how much time it would take for your student to read about ten pages a day, five days a week. A small writing activity is introduced at the end of each class.  Students who wish to receive a grade/assessment will need to finish the writing and submit it within 24 hours of the class. A typical 4th or 5th grade student should be able to complete the work in less than an hour and a half a week.

All students will receive an informal assessment through the Parent Conversation emails in Outschool at the end of the course.  Parents who wish to receive actual letter grades for the student's finished work will need to let Miss Amy know at the beginning of the course.  The graded work needs submitted within 24 hours of being assigned.
