Second graders will continue to improve and enhance their reading skills, practice addition and subtraction, as well as being instruct to word problems. Students will improve their problem-solving skills while also becoming more proficient in computational skills. A second grade education includes a strong focus on reading, language arts and number logic. As second graders learn to read more independently they will progress in fluency, analysis and comprehension. Students will begin to be assignment more independent work. In this full 2nd grade homeschool class, students will learn everything that's needed to be successful as a second grader. This class will be taught by two experienced primary teachers. This class is the perfect class to for first-graders to become familiar with second-grade learning materials. We will have fun learning and practice our motoring movement skills through singing and dancing. Students will be able to work on their social skills by interaction with their classmates. Lessons will be presented in a PowerPoint form and on Canva. Reading and Language will cover the following: For reading we follow the EL Education Curriculum and Readworks. CVC words Story sequence Phonics Sight Words Vocabulary Learning multiple-meaning words How to write a story with a clear beginning, middle, and end Adding and subtracting Solving more challenging word problems in math Telling time and understanding units of time Using a clock/watch Understanding the various physical and chemical changes in matter Distinguishing between human wants and needs Blend consonant Sounds Read simple stories fluently and independently. Retell the main idea of a story and answer questions about the text. Identify parts of a story or book. Writing: Write from top to bottom, left to right while using spacing between words. Correctly write 3- 4-letter words and longer words phonetically. Write simple sentences and short stories or paragraphs in chronological order. Language Arts: Use correct capitalization and punctuation. Understand and identify the parts of speech and types of sentences. Identify compound words and distinguish between proper and possessive nouns. Creating a sentence. Math: For Math we follow the Eureka Curriculum Read and write numerals to 100 and to count objects to 100 or more Addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers without regrouping, up to 100, using models and algorithms Explore number patterns on a hundred chart and with a calculator Represent numbers on a number line Count and create coin combinations; add and subtract money Identify, sort and classify 2-dimensional shapes Understanding the value of money (begin counting money) Science: Life science (plants, animals, habitats) Classification of animals and different animal habitats Distinguishing between living and nonliving things Earth and space science (solar system and beyond) States of matter (solid, liquid, gas) Type of light energy Social Studies: This class meets the United States National Council for Social Studies and Common Core standards. This means that this class will cover the following but not limited to our community, community, maps, past, present, and future. In this class students will learn how to use analytic skills and understanding citizens different point of views. (Our Social Studies curriculum is used commonly in the public schools; your learner maybe very familiar with it. We will be using Pearson: Social Studies book. We will also be using 180 Day of Second-Grade Social Studies) National Holidays and Holidays Around the World Humans want and needs Our community Each week, our class will follow a special theme. This will help keep students engaged and make learning more fun. (Each month parents will receive an update to our learning schedule). *Please note that this class will be divided into two groups into breakrooms. Halfway through class, we will switch classes/teachers. This will ensure that students are able to meet their learning goals. *A workbook PDF will be posted into the classroom for students. This is to be used as our learning worksheets such as handwriting, math, science, social studies, and art. *If you are looking to enroll more than one student, please ask about our discount prices. Week of 5/15/2022: Reading: Identify and describe the main idea of a fiction book using the textual details Math: Three-Digit Numbers in Unit, Standard, Expanded, and a Hundred Science: Cold and Warm Front Social Studies: Maps: Review Week of 5/22/2022: Reading: Identify and describe the main idea of a fiction book using the title Math: Modeling Base Ten Numbers Within 1,000 with Money Science: Weather Types: Hurricane, Tornado, Tsunami, Earthquakes, and etc Social Studies: Your local neighbors and surrounds
