미국 2학년 - 5학년 학년
Grab your imagination and join me as we follow Jack and Annie throughout their medieval adventure as they explore castles, dungeons, moats and knights. Students will read, collect, investigate and document clues to help solve the mystery of who owns the treehouse and who is the mysterious “M”. Students will create a paper version of Jack’s backpack to house their completed activities. Students will read, discuss, create art projects throughout the week. Students will deepen their vocabulary, gain insight from others’ perspectives, learn to make predictions, summarize main ideas and much more. Students will learn about suits of armor, castles and moats with a photo slide show. Optional STEAM Challenges will add to the fun.

Prior to the start of each class, students will need to read the assigned chapters either with the help of an adult, on their own or utilizing an audiobook. The following information I loaded into the "STEAM Challenges and Fact Tracker" attachment. Facts: The Middle Ages began about 450 A.D. and lasted over 1,000 years. It is called the Middle Ages because it falls between the ancient and modern times. Universities and education were now valued during this time. New kinds of paintings and poetry were created. There were some wars during this time period (people fought for religion, who to marry but mostly for land). Eyeglasses were invented during the MIddle Ages. Most of the lands were owned by kings, called Kingdoms. Soldiers that protected the kingdom were known as knights. Some knights carried swords that were so long and heavy that they couldn’t hold them with one hand. Anyone who ruled over the land and people on it was called a lord. People called Serfs were allowed to farm a tiny bit of the kingdom’s land. The feudal system was used whereas there was a trade for using land for work. Many rich people were known as nobles. Noble women were called ladies and had titles such as baroness, duchess or countess. Noble men had titles such as baron, duke, or count. It could take 20 or more years to build a castle. Some castles had moats with crocodiles in them. Thousands of servants and armored men worked for a castle.
