Students will be taught the 6 syllable types and the steps for decoding multi syllable words. The main goal is to teach students to transfer their syllable type knowledge to unknown words in their everyday reading.

In my 25+ years of teaching I have been trained in all kinds of different ways to teach students to read.  This most recent method of teaching students to understand how and why letters make different sounds when put with other letters and placed in certain parts of the words has completely changed my way of thinking.  I have seen huge gains in the students I work with in my brick and mortar school by teaching students the syllable types and how those syllable types work together to make bigger words.

Each week students will be expected to go on a word hunt to find words to share in the next class.  There will be other printouts to complete to help solidify the skills. 

Printouts will be posted to the classroom before class.
PLEASE  make a habit to always CHECK THE CLASSROOM BEFORE CLASS STARTS for any printouts they will need during class,  I will not wait to start class if a child does not have their materials.
