During this ongoing class, learners will develop their writing skills to become confident and competent writers. Those skills include:
-Generating ideas
-Organizing ideas
-Creating leads, transitions, and endings
-Using language conventions in English (i.e. grammar, syntax, spelling, and punctuation)
-Revision and editing
-Genres (narrative, informative, and opinion writing)

The structure of the class will include:
-3-5 min. Greetings & Connections
-3-5 min. Meditation/Breathing Techniques for Relaxation and Focus
-10 min. Mini-Lesson 
-2-3 min. Introduction of Writing Prompt
-7 min. Generating and Organizing Ideas using a Graphic Organizer
-7 min. Shared Writing using Google Docs with the Teacher
-10 min. Independent Writing using Google Docs
-7 min. Writing Conference with the Teacher
-5-6 min. Closing & Homework Assignment Announcement

I will teach this class using a supportive and gradual release of responsibility model. This means that the learner will receive direct instruction on the writing skills necessary for success at the beginning of the class. Then, the learner will receive opportunities to practice those writing skills with the teacher before practicing those skills independently. Finally, the learner will have an opportunity to reflect on their writing before being assigned their homework. 

I believe that it is important to have socially relevant writing prompts that provide space for the learner to express his/her/their creativity and critical-thinking skills. Every learner's voice will be valued and supported in order to maintain the authenticity of their writing voice.

Learners will interact with the teacher one-on-one to increase the learner's confidence in writing while reducing writing anxiety. Additionally, the usage of Google Docs and Slides will be used for instruction and assignments.

Learners must know the letters of the alphabet as well as their sounds. Additionally, learners should have experience spelling basic words and writing basic sentences (e.g. I like the cat.).
