주당 1-2시간. In the highly unlikely event, where the student was not able to complete their project in class, then they may complete the assignment for homework. Every student has their own login credentials to access Soundtrap or BandLab for education and can login at any time. Homework is not a requirement at any point during this camp, however, it is strongly advised, and encouraged when classwork projects were incomplete, whether it was due to not being able to finish in the allotted time or due to missing a class. Completing the project for homework will provide the student with the experience necessary and needed for their final.

수업 소개

This multi-day, hip-hop music summer camp, will have students navigating and operating inside of a premium, yet user-friendly, digital audio workstation. Students will independently navigate, learn and understand the program’s Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) software instruments, audio settings, loops, beats, tracks, recording ability, and so much more. The students will have in depth knowledge in both audio production and sound engineering by the end of this camp. This software is a fully equipped studio that has the ability to professionally create music tracks from scratch, including the beat. Students will acquire advanced competencies by completing activities that will prepare them for recording their own song for their final project. Students will demonstrate understanding of tempo, loops, beats, arranging audio, recording, and microphone use. Students will attend three, hour-long classes for a total of four weeks. They will complete ten lesson plans that will have them getting hands on needed to create a professional track independently as a sound engineer. The students will experience projects that are completely hands-on, immersive, integrated, and interactive while utilizing the state-of-the-art programming developed within the Soundtrap for education software. As the teacher of this class, I take on the responsibility of paying for this technologically advanced equipment and provide the login credentials for my students. There will be no cost to utilize this incredible software while participating in this incredibly unique class that allows each learner to experience what it is like to be an audio engineer working directly with the rich and the famous elite that make up our music industry. The learners will be conducting projects that a professional sound engineer would be assigned in a real studio found in Los Angeles, California today. This will be the environment and the standard for all projects and work that is created and performed during our time together. During classes the students will be expected to work on and complete the planned projects that I have meticulously created to provide them the experience and tools needed, so that each student has the confidence, knowledge and know-how to successfully complete their final tracks at the end of the course. Each class is an hour long, and I will be helping every learner as much or as little based on what is best for each student’s individualistic needs. The lesson plans and projects were planned out in a mindful, thorough, and methodical manner. I truly believe every student will be able to finish each project by the end of every class with no problems. If all of the students complete the assigned project, well before classes end time, we will begin the next project. If for some reason there is a project incomplete by the end of class, the student is strongly encouraged to complete the assignment for homework. I do have additional projects and lesson plans in the event that the students finish all of the projects listed. The project lesson plans are as follows:

Project 1. The Evolution of Hip-Hop, The first projects learning objective demonstrates understanding and the evolution of hip-hop music by going through a playlist with tracks of different decades and sub-genres of hip-hop music; the project's intentions are to show the vast differences throughout hip-hop over the course of time and location.

Project 2. Create a custom beat Students demonstrate basic proficiency with by utilizing loops to compose and export a short audio file that they can later use.

Project 3. Presenting hip-hop music, Learners demonstrate an understanding of performing music live along with the structure process and etiquette. They will also learn about creating program notes and materials.

Project 4. That's a rap, The students will write a 4-measure rap within the specified structure and create a rhythmic backing to accompany it.

Project 5. Adding tracks, A Demonstration of the students' ability to add software, add instrument tracks by creating a project, and also adding a minimum of at least three tracks in the studio file will be the project completed by students in this class.

Project 6. "A Letter to Myself" Musical Affirmation Project, Students will create musical affirmations based on their current interests and strengths. They will then follow up to explore and employ digital audio workstation tools in a compositional context.

Project 7. Shakespeare and hip-hop, Students will demonstrate an understanding of rhythm in poetry by creating hip-hop versions of Shakespeare’s sonnets.

Project 8. Editing effects, The students will use the scientific method of observing, researching, hypothesizing, experimenting, analyzing and reporting conclusions to learn about and articulate the different effects and how they can apply this to their music.

Project 9. Prompts for Beat Making, Students will be going through a 12-page activity guide that goes through several different situations, scenarios, and activities that forces them to experience every part of Soundtrap's beat-making interface, making them legit experts by the end of this class!

Project 10. Create your own hype, This project will provide students with a realistic scenario allowing them to experience first hand what it takes to hype up their music that is getting ready to drop. Students will learn what it is to market a single or any hot track that they are getting ready to release.

After these 10 projects are finished, the students will have a very strong and independent understanding of how to proceed onto the final project, which is creating their own single. The final is extremely structured, and also follows a lesson plan and will be God through just like the previous Ted projects were. The name of the finals lesson plan is "Becoming a Producer.”

This is the final project that everyone worked so very hard up to this point to get to. The bare minimum required parameters for this final project must be that every student independently completes a song that has a minimum of 20-bars total. It is encouraged and absolutely acceptable for the final track to be longer than this if the student chooses to do so. The song must include a hook. This is also known as the song’s chorus. The hook must be at least four bars minimum. There must be at least two verses; each verse must be eight bars in length, contributing to the 16-bar total in the two verses, plus the four bars in the hook equalling the 20-bar minimum. Students will professionally learn all about cadence, tone, beat creations, midis, assigning and stacking tracks, and how to properly record vocals. When the student records their track, they will absolutely need to use a microphone and headphones. After they learn about recording, they will be taught all about the art of mixing and mastering their tracks to get that radio quality sound on every single song. After the students’ successfully complete the mix and master, they will need to make additional changes to their track including transitions, effects, and automation. The completed track is the students’ final project. It is expected for all students to be completed with their finalized track by the final class of summer camp. I love teaching, it is my absolute passion in life, but so is rapping and making hip-hop music. I cannot even tell you how excited I am to meet each and every student who plans on attending my hip-hop summer camp. I am looking forward to all of the amazing music and memories that will be made in this class together.

Either Soundtrap, Bandlab for education, GarageBand, or LogicPro will be necessary for this class.
수업 자료
Students do not need anything as a requirement, however it is suggested that the students have a microphone in order to be able to perform their final track at the most optimal quality. They will be able to record on their cell phones or iPad or computer with Soundtrap for education. Without a microphone, the quality will still be very good, but with one it just adds a little bit more to it.

I have been a teacher for the last 19 years. Besides my career in education that I still love wholeheartedly, I also share an equal passion for music. I have always been drawn to music since I was very young. I started playing the piano when I was in first grade. I was always in the school choir. I never enjoyed watching television, but I would always watch music videos and put the closed captioning on just so I could learn the lyrics of the songs being played. Starting in 2020, I started producing music professionally in a studio. Not even six months later, I set up a full professional home studio and began producing and engineering other artists music along with my own. To date my music is being monetized and available on every major music platform today.
