This class will help your child gain the reading skills they need to become confident readers! This class has been designed for kids ages 6-8 and the focus will be on learning phonics and practicing different methods of sounding out words.

The goal is to help them read better so that they will enjoy reading and then they will read for enjoyment. To achieve this goal I will teach them phonics rules and help them sound out words and learn sight words so that they can read good books and learn all that they want to learn and experience the joy of reading and learning!

What will we do in each class:

Step 1: Choose a Book

I will start with a basic beginning reader like a Bob Book. I will evaluate the learner's reading level from that start. 

Step 2: Work on Reading Skills

Talk about the letters and sounds that are used in the book.

Step 3: Read the Book

I will provide the book and hold it up to the camera. We will read the book together. I will support the learner with help in sounding out new words. I work hard to find books that are enjoyable and interesting to the child. I love to use good picture books to teach from, too.

Step 4: Talk about the Book

After reading, I will have the learner narrate what they have read.

Step 5: Practice at home

I will put a summary of what we did in the Outschool message system. You can open this on a phone and scroll through the list of words to help them with words they need to practice.
