Most children are familiar with simple sentence structure which contains a noun, verb, and adjective. Some are able to understand adverbs and prepositions. But to create really strong, powerful and detailed sentences, learners need to understand the different sentence patterns and how the 8 parts of speech are used to build strong and powerful sentences! TEACHING STYLE: In this live interactive semester class with, learners will engage in a colorful power point presentation and discussion where they will create their own strong sentence patterns by learning about the Strong family and the how spectacular parts of speech "powers" are used in different sentences. While the course builds on content, each lesson can stand-alone to accommodate late enrollment. Each lesson will have a review of material taught, then cover a different part of speech and sentence pattern. Students will be encouraged to participate in discussions, answer questions during class time, and share their own strong sentences. The class starts with instruction on a particular part of speech. After each child practices the material out loud, they write their own sentences on the sentence pattern planner and handout. Different picture prompts and the provided materials, creates a fun, engaging, effective, and powerful learning experience. COURSE DESCRIPTION: • By building on the 8 parts of speech and learning different sentence patterns, learners will write strong and powerful sentences. • Through a fun, colorful slide show with super hero images, learners will engage in the parts of speech and their "powers," learn different sentence patterns, and start writing detailed, descriptive sentences. • Through class participation, learners will practice building on their understanding of the 8 parts of speech and different sentence structure. • Learners will write detailed and descriptive sentences that paint a picture in the reader's mind. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: • Learners should be able to write with a pencil. • Should have a good understanding of the spoken english language. • Perfect spelling and punctuation is not necessary. • Learner may need homework assistance from parents.

I'm a published author, writing teacher, and tutor who's worked with gifted and struggling kids for over 20 years. I saw a gap and a need when it came to writing because children didn't have a basic knowledge of parts or speech, sentence structure, or paragraph writing. I developed a program with fun techniques to engage them to write powerful and sometimes silly sentences. The techniques seemed to work with kids who loved writing as well as those who didn't.
