There is a supply list for this class. Each day we will discuss a part of the 5 year timeline of the war. As we go through the timeline - we will discuss important people from all the countries involved, the allies and the axis; cover the map of the countries; gain a vocabulary of people, places, things and events. There are notes that students can use to follow the timeline! This is a discussion based class and learners should have some understanding of WWII events or a strong desire to learn. Learners will have PowerPoint notes to fill in that correlate with the Power Point; purely OPTIONAL. There will also be visual aids; videos, slide shows and websites used throughout the class. I will include activities, such as, Connect 4, Would you rather?, roll and retell, and others to review material and learn in ways other than lecture. There is also hands on learning as well! My teaching style is to teach the subject/topic, and allow students to share what they know; I also ask questions to elicit knowledge, understanding and/or deeper meanings; or if the student needs the information in a different way to grasp the material. We will also learn: Leaders of World War II - Who am I? game Causes of WWII and the connections to WWI: Treaty of Versailles - interactive activity - Breakout Groups Rise of dictators - video Hitler and the Nazi Party Timeline of WWII - major events from before the Invasion of Poland to Japan's surrender Battles: Invasion of Poland - interactive invasion map Phoney War Germany invades France French Resistance Battle of Britain - activity London Blitz - activity Pearl Harbor Battle of Midway - video Doolittle Raid D-Day Effects of war Homefront experiences: war time economy rationing - activity propaganda - poster examples Tuskegee Airmen - video Recruitment poster - activity Women in WWII - activity Japanese Internment PowerPoint D-Day - fun videos showing fooling Hitler and Hobart Funnies Parachuting - activity Dunkirk evacuation Yalta Conference Manhattan Project Potsdam Conference Other aspects of war: cost of war Cold War intro

I will be addressing Hitler throughout this lesson but I will not approach the concentration camps and the Holocaust. I feel like this is an incredibly dark part of our history and should be taught by the parents first and I do not know what each learner knows and so out of respect for families, I refrain from teaching learners this age about the camps.

I love history, I feel that it is very important to know as much about history as possible. I have written this curriculum and have taught it in an after school settings many times and last summer in a summer camp setting. I have taught k-8th grade and teaching history is my favorite! To get kids excited to learn history fills my bucket!
