このクラスで学べること

In Writing Reimagined, I will be teaching students how to write a full 5 paragraph essay, complete with an introduction and thesis, supporting evidence, and a conclusion. I will begin by assessing each students' level by having them write a short journal for me on a prompt I provide them. The culminating product for this class is the production of a 5 paragraph narrative essay that your student will begin in stage 1 of the Writing Process, which is brainstorming, and take it all the way to the end with a final draft of their narrative essay.
I teach all students the writing process, which scaffolds the work for the student extensively so they will not feel overwhelmed. I will be teaching students what an appropriate introduction and thesis statement require as well as what supporting evidence looks like. The students will also write a conclusion for their essay that is more than just rewriting sentences they have already used! Students will receive lessons in grammar and varied sentence structure as well. I plan to break down the writing process so that all students feel that they can be successful. I will start each class with a warm-up that relates to writing and grammar. We will complete the warm up independently, and then go over the answer together. I will lecture in small bits and teach writing tips and tricks to ensure students grasp the concepts I am teaching. We will write short stories to share from time to time so that students can interact with each other. We will also work towards editing others' papers with an editing checklist. I too of course will help in the editing process. I have fun video clips about grammar and punctuation, and students can ask questions throughout their writing. Students need to be able to at least form simple sentences into a paragraph on a given topic; I can ensure that each student will work on a writing assignment at their level. I can always differentiate, meaning if I find that a student needs more help, it is possible they will only write a 3 paragraph essay. My teaching philosophy is to meet each student where they are at in order for them to experience success. If I teach over a student's head, then they become frustrated and learning doesn't occur. I would much rather a student learn and progress at their level than to try and force something on them that they are not ready for, resulting in frustration for all involved. I love to teach, and I promise I can help your student learn to become a better writer than they ever imagined!

Week 1
We will complete my initial writing assessment so I know where each student is currently at in their writing ability. We will also learn about The Writing Process and various brainstorming techniques. Students will work on Literary vocabulary this week, along with grammar and varied sentence structure.

Week 2
We will be working on the brainstorming portion of our narrative essay. Students will learn about the plot diagram, and how to properly utilize it when using it as a brainstorming tool that helps them when they go to write their first draft. Introductory writing will begin this week.

Week 3
We will be assessing where we are at with our essay drafting. In class, we will complete a creative writing assignment.

Week 4
We will be completing the writing process with revisions and final drafts!

保護者へのお知らせ
If your student chooses to use Google Docs in order to type and share/submit their papers to me, they must have access to either their own Google account and Gmail, or they can use a parent's Google Docs/Google account and Gmail if parent provides permission for student to use their account. The only reason we will ever use Google Docs is to write our assigned writing prompts and submit them. A Google account with Google Docs is not a requirement for this class.
受講に必要なもの
Students will need to be able to write on a software program such as Word or Google Docs, and they will need the ability to share their writing with me, via Outschool portals. Parents e-mailing any assignment is completely acceptable. I will supply curriculum notes such as the writing process, different types of brainstorming techniques, and copies of any grammar or punctuation notes.
