We're going to spend three days diving into a trio of tried and true methods for becoming swimmingly good writers that will breathe life into any paper.  

Day 1 - Truisms (general truths upon which most or all can agree upon and one of my favorite things to teach)

Day 2 - FANBOYS (coordinating conjunctions)

Day 3 - Ba-Da-Bings (a means of letting your reader experience the action or memory with you).

MAKING IT PERSONAL:  USING TRUISMS TO CONNECT YOUR READERS' HEARTS TO YOUR EXPOSITORY PAPER

Your readers' initial interest and the lasting impact of your expository writing can be greatly enhanced by the use of truisms.  Far too often, readers will never read beyond the first paragraph because we simply didn't catch their attention or make a personal connection with them.  What a shame it is to pour your heart into your work, but to never see its impact on others.  

In this session, we're going to learn exactly 
          *  what a truism is and what it isn't, 
          *  the important role it plays in your writing,
          *  it's proper placement in your papers,
          *  and how to write it.

  *  We will gain a clear understanding of truisms through a slide-prompted discussion.  
  *  We will practice writing truisms through the use of picture prompts.
  *  Students will get to share their unique truisms with their fellow learners.

This is going to be fun and productive!!!

FANBOYS:  GETTING SUPER-EXCITED ABOUT COORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS

Coordinating conjunctions are a must for creating deeper, richer, and more complex texts.  

Our FANBOYS class will do more than provide clear instruction on how to correctly use coordinating conjunctions for combining sentences.  It will also give direction for which each coordinating conjunction is used for the various types of sentences, and it will provide a mnemonic device that will prove to be invaluable to our young writers for years to come.

We'll do some light note-taking and lots of fun practicing as our young writers become stronger at their craft.

Students should be fully comfortable with writing complete sentences in order for this class to be beneficial.

BA-DA-BING! MAGICALLY TRANSFORMING LIFELESS SENTENCES INTO VIVIDLY-SHARED EXPERIENCES

It's fun to write about things we've experienced in the past, but do your readers really understand what happened in the moments you are trying to share?  Nobody likes a dull, thin sentence!  Our class will take you far beyond basic sentence-expansion and show you that livening things up is as easy as BA-DA-BING!

By focusing on the action, the five senses, and the thoughts or dialogue, we will help your readers relive a memory with you and believe that they were there with you in the first place!

Students should be fully comfortable with writing complete sentences in order for this class to be beneficial.
