Learners who have challenges with writing do better when they have the opportunity write about topics they are passionate about. When kids have dysgraphia and other learning challenges it can be difficult to get started on a writing project. Reluctant writers need extra support such as a word bank of topic words that they can refer to as they write and graphic organizers to help them brainstorm and execute their ideas. Purposeful writing can also motivate all learners since it provides...
Students will engage the writing process using supports like graphic organizers to write about a subject that they are passionate about. They will be motivated to do purposeful writing by producing a video game review for their favorite game.
Bridget Smith is a credentialed K-12 teacher, a published writer, and the mom to reluctant writers. She has extensive experience supporting kids with ADHD and other learning differences here on the Outschool platform.
Writing supports such as templates and graphic organizers will be shared in the Outschool classroom before class. Please download them if possible because they will provide support for your student's writing. I will also share them in Google Doc form if possible. Blank paper, pens, and colored markers and pencils can be helpful to have on hand if your child wants to be creative.
