In this course we will be learning about women who were pioneers in the aviation field. Each week will feature a video, with pictures and narration about the topic. A handout or activity will be posted for each topic as well. We will discuss: Amelia Earhart and The 99's - The American aviation pioneer, the first women to fly alone across the Atlantic Ocean. Founding member and first president of The 99's - a group of women meant to empower women in the aviation field. Bessie Coleman - The first African American/Native American woman to hold a pilot's license. Jacqueline Cochran - A friend of Earhart's and the head of the WASPs was just a small part of her contribution to women in the air. Women Airforce Service Pilots - The first women to serve in the United States Military as pilots during WWII and their fight for recognition. Helen Richey - Another friend of Earhart's, a WASP and the first commercial female pilot. Valentina Tereshkova - The first woman to travel to space. Sally Ride - The first American female astronaut. Suni Williams - The most recent female to return from space, after being there for 9 months.

I have a degree in history from Columbia College and a Juris Doctorate from Ave Maria School of Law. I will be teaching history, civics, government and law related classes. I am a homeschooling mom and I love sharing my passion for these topics. I want students to realize these subjects are not just in the past, and boring book learning type subjects but are living topics that are interesting and exciting. Many of the topics and lessons I have created were originally created for my homeschooling daughter.
