このクラスで学べること
Students will draw dragons inspired by the "Wings of Fire" book series with pencils (art pencils preferred). This course is beginner friendly but does take some dedication as dragons have a lot of detail. We will cover the basics of how to use different pencils for different values, and how to really draw the shapes and lines in the pictures we draw. With each drawing we will go over art elements and vocabulary (line, shape, color, value, form, texture, and space). We work through the drawing process: sketching, adjusting proportions, assessing light and shadow, and using shadows to create form. Students will be encouraged to ask questions and talk to each other as long as they continue working on their drawings. I encourage (not require) every student to show their work and ask questions multiple times throughout class. Even though we are learning technical skills, I love to make it personal for each learner and encourage their insights and questions. Overall, I love to keep things light and relaxing. There are ten different dragons we will draw over ten weeks and then the schedule repeats. (This includes headshots and full body.) Week of July 29: Sky Wing Week of August 5: Mud Wing Week of August 12: Night Wing Week of August 19: Sea Wing Week of August 26: Ice Wing Week of September 4: Sand Wing Week of September 11: Rain Wing Week of September 18: Hive Wing Week of September 25: Silk Wing Week of October 2: Leaf Wing Week of October 9: Sky Wing Week of October 16: Mud Wing Week of October 23: Night Wing Week of October 30: Sea Wing

Pencils, erasers, and paper. :) It is preferable to have art pencils, which have different H and B values, but normal school pencils can work just fine. I highly recommend a kneaded eraser because there are no "eraser crumbs" to wipe off the page and therefore, less smudging. It is also used to make different textures and shading. I use regular computer paper or a sketchbook. A blending stump, OR a q-tip, OR a kleenex is optional but helps a lot with blending/shading.

Hello! I am BriAnn Ongesel. I have taught online classes for over 7 years and over 2 years here on Outschool. I teach art classes to ages 5-17.
I have my bachelor's degree in Graphic Design from Brigham Young University Idaho. I also studied UX/UI design from California Institute of the Arts. I am currently a freelance designer, online teacher, and mother of four.
I believe that the best learning comes from doing. Students learn from practicing the principles taught and from sharing what they learn with their peers. It is important to have fun in my classes, as well as talking with other students about class concepts and similar interests. Learning is about chasing what excites you and diving into all you can with it.
My hobbies include reading, drawing, and baking. I love good food - including 'nicecream', butternut squash, and cheesecake.
