このクラスで学べること

英語レベル - A2
米国の学年 9 - 12
Intermediate レベル向け
Note: Due to the high content density, this particular course will be largely lecture-based, but students will have frequent opportunities to ask questions and share their thoughts.

Essential Content - Students will learn about the intersections of law and policy that occur within schools of their choosing, building off of and supplementing any existing US Social Studies/Civics courses they have already taken, and will receive practical takeaways that can be used on or before their first day of college.

At the beginning of class, students will be asked to share the name of a college that they would like to attend, for the purposes of learning how to look up information about that college's identity and policy.

Content will cover the following, and may be modified in real-time based on participant interest.

Language of Higher Education
-Types of Schools
--Colleges vs Universities
--Public/Private Distinction - e.g. 'what is a "state school" exactly?'
-Who's Who?
--Staff and Faculty, Titles and Roles
--Students and 'dash' students (-athletes, employees, interns, etc)

Policies You Need to Know About
-Academic
-Financial
-Conduct/Discipline

Emerging Issues (Dependent on time and interest)
-How can my parents help me? // Do parents of students have rights in Higher Ed?
-What does "on campus" mean in regards to online interactions?
-Who can I talk to if the college isn't responding to me?

At the completion of the course, students will have a solid foundation for recognizing WHY certain rules exist at their chosen college, and WHY these rules may be different at other colleges due to intersecting/conflicting impact of law and regulation.
