The teacher will present several vignettes of the weird inventions and the inventors who thought of them. Students will discuss several of the weird inventions that failed and analyze why they failed. Ideas to be discussed are: Was the inventor "ahead of his time?" Did the inventor have enough knowledge to make his invention work? Did the inventor lack money or backers for her idea? Were there factors in the economy or society that worked against his ideas? Class 1: We will explore and discuss weird inventions. Students will be given instructions for their research project. Class 2: The students will each present their findings. We will discuss the qualities an inventor needs to be successful.

I grew up with a dad who was constantly inventing and making things out of scrap metal, wood, plastics and just about anything! I recently found a notebook with one of his drawings for a new invention, made just days before his death. My dad never held a patent, but our family benefited greatly from his ability to think creatively and use his knowledge to make life easier. I love to teach and my passion is science and thinking creatively. Inspiring kids to think outside of the box is one step towards creating the inventors of tomorrow. レビュー
