**** UPDATED FOR FALL 2023 **** As we study history, many things make sense. We know why several countries fought in WWII. We understand how the Civil War came to be in the U.S. But when we step outside the historical narrative passed down by our textbooks, we can see how many fun facts slip through the cracks. This is when we look at our history and ask why and really!? In this class, students will examine our past and explore the weird and interesting things that have happened...
Exploring weird and interesting history can provide valuable context for understanding more mainstream historical events. Unusual occurrences often shed light on broader societal issues, cultural beliefs, or the impact of specific events on individuals and communities. Weird history often highlights the diversity of human experiences throughout time. Learning about odd traditions, strange customs, and extraordinary individuals can foster empathy and appreciation for different perspectives, cultures, and ways of life. Mainly - it's just fun!!
