What does it mean to truly understand someone else’s story? This course goes beyond the pages of history books to dive into the lived experiences of Black individuals, both past and present. Each session invites students into a meaningful conversation about the Black experience, offering a chance to reflect, learn, and share in an inclusive and respectful environment. Every session will have a guiding topic to keep us on track, but the heart of this course lies in the conversations driven by the students themselves. We’ll explore historical events, cultural identity, and current societal challenges, with topics ranging from resilience in Black history to the representation of Black stories in media. Students will leave with a deeper understanding of these issues and their role in fostering empathy and change. Is This Course Right for Your Child? This course is for students aged 12–18 who are ready to engage in thoughtful discussions about race, history, and society. It’s designed for learners who are comfortable sharing their ideas on camera and listening respectfully to others’ perspectives. **If your student is not comfortable with public speaking or having their camera on, this will not be the clas sfor them** Whether your child is looking to better understand their own identity, learn more about the Black experience, or contribute to meaningful conversations about justice and equity, this course will be an empowering and enlightening experience. Parental Guidance This course covers sensitive topics, including the history of slavery, systemic racism, and various forms of violence rooted in discrimination. While discussions will be age-appropriate and closely monitored, they may touch on complex issues such as physical, mental, and sexualized violence within historical and societal contexts. Parental discretion is advised. I encourage parents to assess whether their child is ready to engage with these topics and to reach out with any questions or concerns about the content.
