Welcome to Discovering the 50 States: A Journey Through U.S. History and Culture! In this interactive and self-paced course, students will explore the unique story of each U.S. state - its people, places, and past. We’ll take a deep dive into the history, geography, and cultural identity of all 50 states through a blend of historical research, creative projects, and virtual exploration. Each lesson will answer important questions like: Who originally lived in this area? What Indigenous groups called it home? What motivated European and American settlers to move there? When and how did it become a state? What important events or conflicts took place there? Who are the notable people from this state and what is it known for today? What makes this state unique in the American story? 🗺️ Throughout the course, students will also: Build an ongoing interactive U.S. map Complete mini-biographies of U.S. Presidents and state historical figures Sample regional recipes and foods (optional, fun kitchen activities!) Take virtual tours of national parks, historic landmarks, and cultural sites Work on creative projects like dioramas, worksheets, or short research reports 🎥 Course Format: This is an asynchronous class, meaning there are no live meetings. All lessons are presented through recorded lectures, with optional supplemental materials such as YouTube videos, readings, and hands-on activities. Students will have 1 full year from their start date to complete the course. However, direct communication with me will be available for the official 20-week course period. I'm here to answer questions, give feedback, and support learners as they work through the material. 📩 Homework & Communication: Homework is optional. If your student chooses to submit assignments or message me through the classroom page, I will respond within 24 hours (except Sundays).
