このクラスで学べること
In this ongoing book club, learners will explore different historical fiction books each week. We will travel through time with captivating stories while enjoying a cozy cup of tea. Engage in thoughtful discussions, analyze historical themes, and connect literature to real historical events. The goal is to develop critical thinking, comprehension skills, and social skills. The series will start with books from the American Girl Historical Collection and build from there. Each week, we will focus on a different historical fiction book that highlights: The historical setting and how it shapes the story. The experiences of the characters within the context of real historical events. Themes such as resilience, justice, and societal change. Comparisons between historical fiction and actual history. The author's writing style and storytelling techniques. Learners will read the selected book before class and reflect on guiding questions. Learners can prepare/buy a cozy drink before class. A few recipes will be provided! We begin with a short activity and allow each learner to introduce their beverage of the week. Also feel free to bring tea time finger foods. We'll briefly explore real historical events related to the book and deep-dive into themes, characters, and historical accuracy. This book club is learner-centered and encourages discussion and inquiry. We will have interactive discussions, multimedia resources, and quick writing prompts. All content will be delivered with respectful and thoughtful exploration of sensitive historical topics. I will provide structured guidance while allowing learners to guide the conversation. This class is perfect for young history enthusiasts, book lovers, and curious minds who enjoy stepping into different time periods through engaging stories. Join us with your favorite cup of tea as we read, discuss, and travel through history together!

Historical fiction often explores real-life events and time periods, including complex and sensitive topics such as war, slavery, discrimination, and social injustice. These themes are presented in an age-appropriate way but may prompt important discussions about history, human rights, and resilience.
Each book selected for this class is chosen for its historical accuracy, literary merit, and ability to foster meaningful conversations. However, some content may be emotionally impactful. Parents are encouraged to review book selections in advance and support their child's understanding through open discussions.
I strive to present these topics with care and respect, ensuring that classroom discussions are thoughtful and guided by historical context. If you have concerns about specific books, please reach out for more details on content and themes.
