As a special educator, I understand how to meet learners at their present level of need and how to design lessons which foster skill development as well as self confidence. Each class will focus on a specific skill and will include time for practice as well as for sharing. These lessons are designed to be stand-alone sessions, so students do not have to attend all of them to be successful. There will be focused segments, and students are welcome to join for any or all of them! Classes will follow the following schedule: First, all learners will be given a chance to share their progress or a good thing that has happened since we met last. Second, I will give an explicit lesson about the skill to be learned which will follow the I do, We do, You do format. I will present well-written pieces to the class as examples to follow, the class will write something together, and then learners will be encouraged to try the skill themselves. Third, I will meet individually with each student to provide encouragement and feedback on their writing. When not in a conference with me, students will spend their time developing their monthly writing piece. Last, everyone will be given a chance to share their new knowledge or creation with the class before we say good-bye. Reviews will be via the Kahoot website at the end of each unit. I will follow the following sequence: Prose Week of June 9: Purpose, Techniques Week of June 16: 6 W's (Who, What, Where, When, Why, How)/Outline / Setting Development Week of June 23: Character Development/Dialogue Reflection Week of June 30: Hook Week of July 7: Descriptors Week of July 14: Figurative language Week of July 21: Thoughtful organization Academic Research Week of July 28: Purpose/Techniques/Research Week of August 4: Introduction Week of August 11: Body Week of August 18: Conclusion
